Balloon
Training Online - How To Use Hi-Float?
Hi-Float
is a fantastic product which extends the float time of a standard
Qualatex 11 inch latex balloon from 18-24 hours to around 1-2 weeks.
The float time can vary due to factors such as the amount of helium
used and environmental conditions such as humidity.
We probably
have more questions regarding Hi-float from balloon decorators
than anything else. Hi-Float is a 'glue' which goes inside the
balloons before they are inflated. This is then massaged inside
the balloon for a few seconds and the glue creates a protective
barrier which stops the helium from escaping as quickly.
Hi-Float is very safe. It is non-toxic, non-irritating, non-corrosive, non-flammable
and biodegradable. It is similar to the glue on the back of postage stamps.
Hi Float comes in a dispenser as shown in the picture on the right (larger
bottles are also available). This is where it gets slightly complicated: We
find the dispenser puts in too much Hi-Float and if you use the recommended
amount it can sink the balloon or only extend the float time by a day or so.
We find it works much better if you put in a lesser amount (a pea sized blob)
which is the same as pushing the nozzle down around half way.
Also, and this is very important, when we inflate the 11 inch balloon with
helium after the Hi-Float has been inserted, we over-inflate the balloon by
around half an inch. This gives the balloon the extra lift needed to make up
for the additional weight of the Hi-Float.
If you follow these 2 simple rules of only inserting a pea-sized blob and slightly
over inflating the balloon we find it works perfectly every time and your float
time will be 1-2 weeks.
However, several years ago I was talking to a lady who teaches balloon decorating.
We chatted about Hi-Float and I explained our method of using it. She disagreed
completely and said the correct way is to follow the instructions on the bottle.
I suggest you try our method of using Hi-Float and also the standard way. Practice
with a few balloons to find which way is best for yourself.
